An interview with Sheryl Crow

By Mark Goodier
5/ 6/2008

Sheryl Crow graced our studios to share a Take Five moment with us. An accomplished musician, she revealed that she learned to play the piano by ear. She loves Elton John music and used his songs as her inspiration when she first learned to play the piano.

All the music Sheryl picked was by outstanding songwriters: Paul McCartney, Elton John, Carol King... although she changed her mind last minute to James Taylor and Stevie Nicks. I, for one, am looking forward to her Hyde Park show with Eric Clapton at the end of the month.

On Saturday night my TV told me that Britain’s got talent... Has it? Yes, I do believe it has. Through all the advice dished out buy Morgan, Holden and Cowell I really felt the show brought light entertainment back to Saturday night television. Without the show it seems unlikely that we would have discovered the amazing young potential of 12-year-old Faryl Smith or 13- year-old Andrew Johnston.

Their performances and the way they handled their nerves was incredible and while only one of those made the final top three, 14-year-old breakdancer George Sampson was a worthy winner. It was a terrific visual performance that will sit perfectly on the Royal Variety Performance bill.

Good to see Sir Paul McCartney looking so relaxed with Yoko Ono at Stella’s fashion show in Liverpool. The Anfield gig must have been great too, with fans there ranging from Foo Fighter Dave Grohl to Wayne Rooney!
