Inventor’s hopes for energy device

A semi-retired electrical engineer has invented what he believes is the only energy saving device of its kind in the world.

Roy Hunter says his new E..Pulse system can cut everyday fuel bills by up to 36%.

Mr Hunter came up with the idea one day at his home in Phoenix Green near Hartley Wintney.

“I was sitting on a radiator seat and heard the thermostat click off and realised the radiator gets hotter as soon as it shuts off,” he said.

“I looked into this further and started making a proto-type, which proved to be very successful.

“It’s been working on my house for three years now and the bills have been cut.

“If you split a year into winter and summer over the year you will save 36% on your bills. It’s all money back in your pocket.”

Mr Hunter’s electronic unit is wired into a new or existing boiler system. “It’s an electronic pulse system which basically pulses the boiler,” he said.

“It pulses the heating and hot water systems until the temperature is reached and then the boiler shuts off.

“The system then carries on pulsing all the time. As soon as it is wired in it starts working immediately.”

Mr Hunter has been in the electronics business all his life and has spent the last 34 years self-employed, repairing televisions, videos, radios and computers.

His system has been verified by Prof Howard Court of Portsmouth University, who carried out a thorough four-day survey on it.

Mr Hunter said: “He put eight mini-computers in different places around the house and gave me a complete readout.

“He was even interested in having one himself.”

Mr Hunter has also approached Age Concern in Winchester about his invention.

“They are very interested in backing it and are going to put the details in their magazine in May so hopefully the word will spread,” he said.

The system can be fitted to domestic or commercial properties.

“They take about an hour to assemble and we’re having a run of 20 to start with,” said Mr Hunter.

“The systems currently retail at £185, including installation locally, but the price will lower as we sell more systems, which I am confident we will.”

Mr Hunter has spent the last four years developing his invention.

He said: “It’s been a long, hard slog and I had to make three prototypes to get down to the finished unit.

“The first one was about three times the size of the last one.”

Mr Hunter has had the circuit board made and built by Camberley-based Nortonics Ltd.

“I had to search around for a company that would make it to my specifications,” he said.

The system has been   patented for the UK and European markets.

Mr Hunter said: “I would say this is possibly the only system of its kind in the world.

“Going through the searches for the patent there’s different ideas but not like this one.

“It feels good having invented something that no one else has thought of.”

Mr Hunter has had a lot of help from the South Hampshire Agency based in Fareham.

“I have a mentor working with me called Diane Hope, who is based in Basingstoke, and is helping develop the business side of it,” he said.

“She’s got all the contacts and has  provided invaluable information.

“It’s all about finding the right people who can push you forward all the time.”

Mr Hunter has so far spent £35,000 on the project and is now hoping orders start rolling in.

He said: “If someone comes up with an order for 1,000 units then we’ve got the logistics in place to do it.”
