Town gets set for centenary
4/ 8/2008
Traders are all set to celebrate 100 years of retail therapy in Fleet.
A packed programme of events has been planned for Saturday (August 9) as the Fleet Business Partnership presents the centenary celebration.
Hardware store W C Baker and Son, which is celebrating 100 years of service in Fleet, is sponsoring the family day.
Owner Geoff Baker is proud to be sponsoring the event.
He said: “We are also holding a balloon race, with all proceeds going to two local hospices, Naomi House and the Phyllis Tuckwell, in recognition of their hard work.
“We are looking forward to a family fun-filled event bringing business and community together, and then to the next 100 years.”
The fun runs from 9am to 5pm and will include a chance to meet the animals from Miller’s Ark, a history walk, Victorian swing boats, a miniature railway, egg and spoon races, hardware demonstrations, children’s rides and morris dancing.
Brian Bass will have bungee run and rodeo bull competitions while staff celebrate 30 years in the town with a 70s-style theme.
The Hart Shopping Centre will have a wealth of activities on offer, while many shops throughout the town will also be joining in the fun.
For more on this event see the Fleet Mail on August 5.
A full programme of events can be found in a special guide to Fleet.
