The joys of growing old disgracefully will be put in the spotlight on May 24 when comedienne Jenny Éclair brings her hilarious stand up show to the Princes Hall in Aldershot.

Often referred to as the funniest woman in Britain, Éclair’s latest tour ‘Because I Forgot To Get A Pension’ offers audiences a unique insight into the innermost thoughts of the 48-year old as she stumbles her way towards the dreaded 'five-o'.

Filled with words of wisdom and wit on a host of topics ranging from motherhood to sausages, the 30-date tour follows hot on the heels of the incredibly successful Grumpy Old Women Live show which saw the BBC Two treasured series written and adapted for theatre.

Starring fellow Grumpy star and comedienne Dillie Keane and Linda Robson of Birds Of A Feather fame, the show, which was co-written by 48-year-old Eclair, was a hit at theatres across the country and even enjoyed a brief stint at the West End.

With stage accounting for a mere fraction of the vast rainbow of talent Éclair has to offer, it is not difficult to see why ‘Because I Forgot To Get A Pension’ looks set to be one of the most anticipated dates on this season’s comedy calendar.

Taking her initial steps onto the stand up scene at the Edinburgh Festival in 1992, Éclair churned out several routines before she hit the big time in 1995 when she performed the now infamous ‘Prozac and Tantrums’.

Her act earned her national attention as well as the honour of becoming the first woman winner of the much-coveted Perrier Comedy Award.

The prize saw her join the likes of former Perrier winners Lee Evans, Steve Coogan and Frank Skinner.

From there, she released live stand up video ‘Top Bitch’ before embarking on a 35-date tour of ‘Prozac and Tantrums’.

While stand-up has always remained a permanent fixture on Éclair’s schedule, an appearance in Fame Academy Does Comic Relief in 2005 and regular slot in Grumpy Old Women established her as a household name.

Her role as presenter of a weekend talk show on LBC 97.3 saw her talent take to the airwaves to ensnare a new audience.

Finding time to pen three books and contribute to another has also helped increase her popularity.

Jenny Éclair’s ‘Because I Forgot to get a Pension’ Tour is showing at Princes Hall in Aldershot on May 24 at 7.45pm.

Tickets at £15 and £14 for Friends are available from the box office on 01252 329155 or online at www.princeshall.com.
