La Meridiana Restaurant in East Horsley
October 22, 2010
The La Meridiana is nestled in the heart of East Horsley, and offers you a slice of Italy in this quaint Surrey village.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by co owner Giovanni Ulivi and were welcomed in to an inviting eatery sympathetically decorated with pale yellow stucco walls, murals depicting Tuscan landscapes and famous Italian proverbs. The waiting staff was informed and energetic and nothing was too much trouble even though the restaurant was very busy.
The menu, created by Chef Dante Panizza, is a vibrant selection of Italian ristorante fare. There is a choice of a set dinner menu, 2 courses for £15.50 or 3 courses for £17.90 or the main menu, which offers a fine selection.of Antipasti, pasta, fish and meat dishes. We were given plenty of time to deliberate over the menus where pretty much every dish cried out to be devoured.
We decided on the main menu, starting with Salmone di Scozia Affumicato (Smoked Scotch Salmon), £9.50 and the Bresaola con Rucola e Parmigiano (Cured beef, thinly sliced, served with rocket lettuce and parmesan shavings) £8.50. For a starter, the portion sizes were generous; my wife described the salmon as ‘some of the best she has eaten’. The Bresaola was superb; the cured beef was well complimented with the parmesan and rocket. These were enjoyed with a nice glass of house red.
For the main course, we decided on the Spigola Casa Mia (Whole Seabass, filleted and pan fried in a white wine , fresh lime, rosemary, butter and parsley sauce) £19.50 and the Medaglioni al Funghetto (slices of fillet steak cooked with mushrooms, pancetta and red wine) £24.50. Both were served with seasonal vegetables and roasted sautéed potatoes. The Sea bass had Mediterranean tang to it, with the fresh lime, and was cooked to perfection. The fillet steak was succulent, tender and the sauce was rich. Both of us noticed that the steak and the sea bass were very much the stars of the dishes. Everything on the plate complemented their centerpieces’.
There were a selection of homemade desserts available, but having been left completely satisfied by our mains, we decided to skip this course.
The whole evening was made even more pleasant by the excellent waiting staff and the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.
La Meridiana is now taking bookings for Christmas and New year, they will be open for Christmas lunch, Boxing day Lunch and New years eve, with three different set menus for each day.
