Free taster session for adult rock choir

November 25, 2009

People who like to sing along with the X Factor stars can join a new choir in Reading.

The School of The Arts (SOTA) is forming an adult rock choir and offering a free taster session on Thursday, December 3.

Inspired by the success of Arborfield hopeful Danyl Johnson – also a SOTA teacher in Windsor – the Reading school is starting the choir for people who love to sing those X Factor-style songs.

Juliette Caton of SOTA said: “There is no audition, we want to encourage anyone who loves to sing to come along and have a go.”

She said her voice coaches would even be able to cope with people who are tone deaf.

The sessions are at The Elvian School in Southcote Lane from 8pm to 9.30pm.

The 10-week course costs £90.

To find out more visit www.sota.uk.com or call 0845 371 9838.

It seems strange to me that Chaversham and Hugh Janus can only have negative things to say here. It seems to be a trend on their posts on this site.

Chaversham: The Evening Post is a local newspaper and it's purpose is to inform and educate the public about news, views and events within the community. To suggest that they are being 'cheeky' by telling us about a FREE community event is a bit odd. Furthermore, I would actually think it appropriate to praise this local newspaper for spreading the news of such an event and not turning it into an advertising opportunity to make money from, when clearly the organisation concerned is offering something for FREE to the local community. We should be supporting initiatives like this - not heckling them from the comfort of our laptops.

Hugh Janus 'If it's X Factor style how can it be a "Rock" choir?'

- Given by your comments on the rest of this site I can take it that you don't actually watch, like or support anything to do with performing whether it be Reading's Got Talent or X Factor. If you HAD watched X-Factor you would notice that the contestants sing 'contemporary' music ...a genre of music which includes Rock and Pop styles. It appears SOTA adult rock choir are called this to denote the genre of music they are singing - which is also the same genre of music sung on the X Factor. Indeed they had a ROCK Week on X Factor this series where the contestants sang....um.....well.....ROCK MUSIC!!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

This is an advert, pure and simple. EP is being a little cheeky trying to pass it off as a "news" story.
One who knows, Chaversham
