Brian Conley tops autumn attractions at Lakeside

14/ 7/2008

Some of the biggest names from the world of music and comedy are heading for Bob Potter’s Lakeside Country Club in coming months.

The latest to be added to the list is a star in both fields — TV’s Brian Conley. He is on stage at the club in Wharf Road, Frimley Green, on Saturday November 22.

Leading the laughter over the season will be household names like Jimmy Jones, Jethro and Jim Davidson, and among the chart stars past who will be gracing the famous stage are Bruce Welch and his Shadowmania, The Fortunes, The Ivy League, John Leyton, Mike Berry and The Real Thing.

From the psychic world, Tony Stockwell is slated for Wednesday October 8, and there is also line dancing, country music and a Mr Hercules bodybuilding spectacular.

There’s something for the ladies — the Girls Night Out, featuring male strippers. And you can see the year out in style with Red Hot Abba on New Year’s Eve.

The leisure complex also contains Beepy’s, Lakeside’s very own nightclub, with dancing most nights of the week. There’s line dancing on Sundays and Wednesdays, Salsa on Mondays and Jive on Tuesdays. But Beepy’s big night of the week is Saturday when it hosts the Over 25s disco.

Lakeside spokesman Austin Brown said: “This is a disco night from 9pm until 2am with our own DJ, featuring a broad spectrum of music for grown-ups.

“We welcome singles, doubles, groups — it has built up over the years. It’s a safe place for people to come and enjoy themselves.”

Entrance is £6, but rises to £10 after 10pm. Dress is smart casual.

Music from the 1970s and 1980s kicks off the autumn season on Saturday September 13 with dancing to show bands Saturday Night Beaver and Skool Daze.

Fans of The Shadows are in for a real treat the following Saturday when the group’s original rhythm guitarist (and lead singer) Bruce Welch brings his Shadowmania show to Lakeside.

International bands and guests will join Bruce and his mates for a spectacular that starts at 3pm and runs until midnight.

The bad news is that this one’s already sold out.

However, tickets remain for 1960s stalwarts The Fortunes and The Ivy League who appear the following Saturday evening (September 27). Tickets are £15, with hot food available. Doors open at 8pm.

There are also tickets left for the Juke Box Heroes show on Saturday October 4, featuring some big names from the 1960s.

John Leyton was a dashing 22-year-old in August 1961 when his haunting Johnny Remember Me hit number one in the charts. He will be joined by (among others) popsters The Honeycombs whose Have I The Right topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic in the summer of 1964, selling more than two million along the way.

Also on the bill is Mike Berry who was not only a big name on the music scene, but has also dipped a toe in the worlds of acting and motor racing and even had a stint as a photographic model, appearing in a number of television adverts.

Jethro, Cornwall’s King of Comedy, will be at Lakeside on Saturday, November 15, with a support act and after-show disco. Tickets are £20.

Disco kings The Real Thing head the line-up on Saturday December 6. Red Hot Abba are on stage on December 18, 19 and return for the New year’s Eve party.

Comedian Jim Davidson returns to Lakeside on Saturday December 20 and Sunday December 21.

A full list of forthcoming attractions is available on the website at www.lakesidecomplex.com or by calling the box office on 01252 836464.
