Daniel's 'Keefro' book might just tickle your fancy

THE next time you go wandering through Lammas Recreation Ground in Staines be sure to keep a lookout for the 'Keefro', says the author of a children’s book illustrated by his son.

Daniel and the Amazing Tickling Keefro is based on author John Thompson’s walk through the park with his son Daniel three years ago, when the youngster spotted a ‘Keefro’ – a three-tailed animal that tickles people.

Daniel's imagination gave Mr Thompson an idea for a book and now father and son have received a letter from Buckingham Palace after the seven-year-old sent a copy to the Queen.

Mr Thompson, 44, lives in Moor Lane, Staines, with his wife Tamryn, 33, Daniel and his older brother Mason, 9, and younger brother Joseph, 2.

The couple are also expecting another child in February.

Mr Thompson said: “When my son was four we went for a walk and he said ‘stand back daddy, stand back. It’s a Keefro. It’s an animal and if it catches you it will tickle you with its three tails’.

“I decided to write a story about it and as I was writing it Daniel started drawing the pictures.

“After we finally got it published Daniel sent a copy and a letter to the Queen and he got a letter back thanking him, saying it was very kind to get the book.”

The book, which is written in rhyme, mirrors their day in the park and tells the story of the discovery of the Keefro.

It is available on Amazon and is published by Author House.

Mr Thompson said the family had enjoyed the writing process.

“Mason loves his brother’s art and is really proud of him. Daniel enjoyed drawing the illustrations.

"It really is a good little book and I had such a great time writing it that I have since started on other books.”
