Thriller on track to build up suspense

10/ 7/2008

Strangers On A Train, by Craig Warner and based on the classic thriller by Patricia Highsmith, comes to The Haymarket in Basingstoke from Tuesday, July 15 to Saturday, July 19.

It stars Hannah Waterman, daughter of Dennis Waterman, and best known for her part as Laura Beale in EastEnders.

The compelling psychological thriller captures a growing sense of claustrophobic terror.

Two young men meet on a train; Guy Haines, an ambitious architect, and Charlie Bruno, a mother-fixated playboy with a taste for danger.

As the train takes them to their destination, the two travellers speculate upon what it would be like to commit the perfect murder.

Bruno sets up an “unwanted” trade-off whereby he will murder Guy’s errant wife in return for Guy murdering Bruno’s father. The perfect crime, with neither murderer knowing his victim.

The innocent Guy doesn’t realise that this casual encounter is “deadly” serious and is dragged into a downward spiral of nightmarish control and sinister murder plots when Bruno completes his part of the casual bargain and hounds Guy to round the murder circle.

Directed by Bruce James, this is a thrilling story with, at times, unbearable suspense that builds steadily but terrifyingly to the dramatic and nerve-wracking climax.

Tickets for Strangers On A Train are priced £16.50 and £18.50.

Over-60s pay £14.50 and £16.50; under-16s and students pay £8. All tickets for the 2pm performances are £12.
