The stars came out to shine on the red carpet for the Golden Globes awards in a range of shimmering gowns.

Silver and metallic were dominating shades of the night with Drew Barrymore in a 1920s inspired gown, Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen and Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad, all rocking the look.

The 74th Hollywood awards might not pip the Oscars in importance, and the best ball gowns are reserved for the Academy Awards but it's the awards where stylists push the boundaries a little, and often the gamble pays off.

La la land swept the boards winning seven awards, its female lead Emma Stone looked every inch the star in metallic star-studded Valentino, and proved that plunging doesn't have to look cheap.

Pink was also a popular shade for the evening with Brit Claire Foy, who was named best actress in a television drama for her portrayal of the Queen in The Crown, leading the way in Erdem, Felicity Jones was pretty in pink in Gucci and Lily Collins looked dazzling in Zuhair Murad Couture.

Blake Lively wowed on the red carpet just four months after giving birth, in an Atelier Versace dress with chain mail drapes.

Natalie Portman's maternity wardrobe was by none other than Miuccia Prada, perfectly proportioned on her petite frame and the tricky yellow colour worked against her brunette locks, Naomie Harris deserves an honourable mention for carrying off her champagne & platinum structured dress by Armani Prive showed how timeless old school glamour is.
