Flights appeal

March 29, 2007

Readers may like to know that the second phase of the appeal to stop the 100 per cent increase in flights at Farnborough Airport starts at 2pm on April 2 at the Rushmoor Council offices. (Story, Page 3)
The local papers have been full of late with stories of individuals and groups objecting to phone masts, golf ranges, M3 noise, distribution centres and overdevelopment. All will know that in addition to this, TAG aviation, with the full support of Gerald McHowarth, MP for fast food and fast planes, want to develop the sky above our heads to make a fat profit from an aerodrome never determined to be an international gateway. The TAG appeal is a great opportunity to demonstrate how we feel.
Is MP Gerald Howarth going to continue to defy his political masters and support an obviously anti-green enterprise?
Are the local and national opposition going to come out of their holes and say something? Are foreign business interests once again going to get the red carpet form our Government? Is the clearly expressed will of the local people (94 per cent) going to be overturned by committee?
