Make a difference
July 26, 2007
I write respectfully to alert people of Church Crookham and south Fleet to the horrible noise and loss of quality of life we will be suffering permanently if we do not wake up and make our voices heard now.
Like me, you may have noticed lots of very low-flying, loud planes going over your homes.
The trials you may have heard of actually mean all the planes are now flying out of Farnborough Airport over Church Crookham and south Fleet – so that they no longer fly over homes in Cove, Farnborough, Southwood and so on.
This trial has been going on for two months and unless we object now, not only may it soon be permanent but – if TAG gets permission – the weekend flights will be doubled as well.
TAG has given this trial the description of “narrowing the flight corridor”.
In essence planes going south are supposed to leave the runway, fly straight for two miles over Tweseldown racecourse before turning right or left.
Alarmingly almost directly under this two-mile turning point is an infant school in Tweseldown Road.
This is unacceptable and also many of these jets, I believe, are ignoring the corridor and continually flying low – off the trial flight path – and over our homes.
Walking our dog behind the Foresters pub today on Velmead Common we saw three business jets scream overhead four minutes apart – well off-course.
The previous rule that all planes reach 1,800 feet before initiating a turn has been scrapped. This may be one of the reasons many fly so low over our homes (and the school).
Before these trials started all planes “peeled off” after leaving the runway and turned right, spreading the noise and disturbance over Cove, Farnborough, Fleet and Church Crookham.
We feel sorry for anyone living under the increasing number of loud planes but now all planes going south fly only over Church Crookham.
Every day (except weekends) for us has become unbearable after having such peace and quiet. Before the trial we may have seen during the day four distant planes and one noisy jet during summer.
This morning we had 13 low, unbearably noisy business jets from Farnborough (TAG) flying overhead in under three hours – we were forced to go out for some peace.
There are acres of open land to the south of Tweseldown – if any narrowed flight corridor is envisaged why would they not make all planes (south) take off over that area?
You can make a difference – ring the complaints line now 01252 526001 – it’s a recorded message.
You may not be affected by plane noise at the moment, but this fast-expanding airport will mean more and more flights and a definite devaluing of our homes.
