Local people have been ignored

19/ 6/2008

In May 2005 when I left the county council as local member for Aldershot East, which covers Chrismas Lodge, the proposals for any option were not around but the rumours were being played out.

Talking to local people in the immediate surrounding roads it was clear that they did not want a housing estate, but were perfectly happy to see a refurbishment of the building and a new use by the community.

However since that time the local people have been ignored and community needs discounted. As we moved on and I was no longer the local member, the Community Trust concept came to the fore. That as we see was ignored as well.

There has been little fight by local members and just ignoring by the county member who seemingly they have to contact via either Rushmoor Council Offices or Hampshire’s. It’s just another example of not reflecting local views or being available.

As for the Lib Dems, I’m afraid it’s opportunism again.

   Have local people been ignored?

This year HCC returned the lowest Council tax rise in the South East, it is also a top performing Council in the delivery of its services.

Next year we Conservatives are aiming for an even lower Council Tax increase because we know many people under this Labour Government are struggling to pay their bills.

The County is giving a new lease of life to its Care and Nursing homes; Ticehurst nursing home in Heronwood Aldershot is an example. It has been expanded and upgraded to accommodate nearly seventy residents. The cost over 4 million and that is where the residents and staff from Xmas lodge were relocated; the sale of the lodge land will help in this process.

With regard to the land still owned by HCC and incorporated into Brickfields Park, which includes the access path. I argued for it’s legal transfer to Brickfields (Rushmoor Borough Council) and this will happen when everything is finalized.

With reference to turning the site into a community resource, RBC has already drawn up plans for a new Community Certre in Manor Park. Why would Rushmoor Borough Council fund another community facility within the immediate vicinity?

In this letter Cllr Roberts shows us clearly the difference between Labour and the Conservatives he does not tell you how his ideas for Chrismas Lodge are to be paid for?

But what can you expect, in the recent Borough elections I was amazed by the uncosted promises made to the Aldershot electorate by the local Labour party. From free parking in the Town Centre for Aldershot residents to subsidized late night bus services for North Town, plus an odd £20 million for a road access from the A331 to North Town Industries.

Regretfully we are never told who is going to pay for all of this? It certainly will not be this Labour Government it has ran out of your money. In his last paragraph he mischievously states residents cannot easily get in touch with me, rubbish my contact details are available on HCC and RBC websites where my home telephone number 01252 677032 is clearly shown.
