CHARLES Church, one of the UK's leading housebuilders, has undertaken a survey to reveal consumer attitudes and habits in the bedroom — from the most popular colours to the celebrities you'd most like to share with.

More than 80% of those asked reported spending at least eight hours in the bedroom each day.

But that time isn't just spent sleeping. Among the most popular activities undertaken in the bedroom are reading, watching television and a spot of indulgent pampering.

Indeed not everyone makes it to the bedroom to sleep. More than half of those asked admitted cat napping on the sofa.

Apparently we are a nation of TV addicts, with the likes of Big Brother accentuating our compulsion for round the clock viewing.

So it's encouraging to see this survey reveal when it comes to the bedroom 80% of respondents prefer the company of a good old fashioned book, compared to 60% who opt for the remote control.

So just how important is the bedroom? This survey reveals that almost half of those questioned believe the bedroom is more valued than a garden but more than 90% place it behind the kitchen and lounge in terms of priorities.

It appears looks count in the bedroom, with half of respondents picking up a paint brush in the last 12 months.

But despite the vast choice of colours available — from sexy pink to sunset orange — the majority of consumers asked are opting for neutral shades of cream and white.

When it comes to sharing your bedroom with someone in the public eye predictably this survey revealed celebrity icons George Clooney and David Beckham as the top two choices.

Perhaps more surprising are the likes of Eddie Izzard, Jonny Vegas, Snow White and Scooby Doo, who also made it on to the list.

Needless to say politicians were nowhere to be seen.
