THERE is something for even the pickiest of relatives at Le Petit Gift Company.
Run by two local sisters, it is a new, Farnborough-based company which specialises in unusual gifts for the family and the home.
From its website — www.lepetitgiftco.co.uk — you can buy homeware items including candles, clocks, door hangers, as well as plaques and door signs engraved with messages.
It also has plenty of gift ideas for children, parents, grannies and granddads — even the in-laws.
These include puzzles and games, aprons and bags, personalised CDs, jewellery and presents for babies.
“Our stock is chosen by both of us very carefully,” said Tracy Cox, 38, who runs the business with sister Gina Paskins, 40.
“We wanted to sell gifts that were a little unusual and that you wouldn’t be able to find on the high street.
“Being mums ourselves we know that unusual presents are always difficult to find.
“We wanted the shop to have something for everyone — for customers to buy for themselves, their house, or even without having an occasion in mind.”
The sisters, who own the Wizzy World Adventure Party and Play Centre at Farnborough, came up with the idea as they looked to expand their business.
“We set up Wizzy World in 2003 and it has been very successful,” said Gina, who lives in Ash Vale with her two children Reade, nine, and Finli, six, and husband Drew, 38.
“But we got to the point where we were looking for a new challenge. We thought a gift company focusing on families would be complement Wizzy World perfectly.
“While the children are happily playing safely, mums and dads can browse at the small gift shop we’ve set up at the centre.”
The sisters started their business in October 2005, but have spent the last year finding suppliers and setting up their website.
“We have spent a lot of time finding the right stock and running stalls at school fetes to find out what really works,” said Tracy.
“We are really pleased with the range of gifts that we’ve found. We don’t stock something unless we both agree on it. Thankfully we
have the same taste, so there aren’t many arguments.”
One of their best sellers has been Mummy and Me Bracelets. Containing two silver bracelets with heart charms — one for mum and one for daughter — it is an ideal gift for Mother’s Day.
They also have plenty of wearable items including hand-knitted coats and cardigans, as well as funky aprons and bags.
But the sisters’ favourite items have to be the East of India range of plaques and door signs. “These have beautiful wording on them, so it’s not the value of the gift that’s recognised, but the words that have been crafted on to it,” said Tracy, who lives in Fleet with her children Jayden, six, Bayley, three, and Lexi, one, and husband Darren, 41.
“It shows the thought and love someone has put into choosing that present,” she added.
Tracy and Gina are always on hand should you be stuck for ideas. “We named it Le Petit Gift Company as the name says it all. We are a small and very personalised gift company,” said Gina.
“There is only the two of us so if you pick up the phone, it’ll be one of us who answers. That way we can make sure cust-omers get the personal touch.”
