Lisa's designs on early success

Business is booming at Sassy in Ash Vale, which was opened by Lisa White just 11 weeks ago.

Lisa, a qualified and experienced hairdresser, nail technician and make-up artist, is proving she has a wise head on young shoulders.

She employs four stylists at the salon in Ash Hill Road — Emma Sines, Nadine Messich, Sally Lipscombe and Jade Hayward — and one beauty therapist, Lili Kingsmill.

“We can offer clients a full beauty treatment service including hair styling and colours, facial treatments, make-up and nail treatments,” she said.

“The idea is to provide top class services at affordable prices in comfortable and relaxing surroundings, not forgetting the convenience of easy parking for our customers.”

Lisa has sourced high quality products, with Paul Mitchell for the hair, Guinot for the beauty treatments and St Tropez for artificial tanning.

For the make-up, she chose Virgin Vie, a brand that is usually only available on the private party circuit.

“I have used all the products in the past and I know they are extremely good,” she said. “”Virgin Vie in particular is excellent, particularly for the price.

"The quality is there but it’s very competitively priced and I also like the fact they are always bringing out new products and ranges.”

For nails, Lisa uses the well-known brand Jessica but she also highly rates Bio Sculpture Gel which can be used to give non-chip colour as well as for building up artificial nails by applying the gel over the natural nails while still allowing them to grow and strengthen behind.

To ensure customers enjoy their experience at the salon as much as possible, Lisa has given a great deal of thought to the design of its interior.

There is a feeling of light, clean airiness and each styling station has a full-length mirror so clients can see themselves as a whole with their new look, rather than having just a head and shoulder view.

Even the hair washing room has been given Lisa’s attention to detail.

With the lights dimmed, clients can lie on beds perfectly aligned to the height of the washbasins while they have their hair washed.

They can drift off and relax by the light of the tiny ‘stars’ which pepper the dark blue ceiling.

“Lots of people really enjoy having their hair washed and find it very soothing,” said Lisa. “I chose these beds so clients would be in the most comfortable position at the sinks without having their necks cricked at an awkward angle.

“And to make sure they feel fully relaxed, we can give them hair treatments and an Indian head massage as well.”

The salon is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm with the exception of Thursdays, when hours are 10am to 8pm. At present, beauty treatments are not available on Wednesdays.

A cut and blow dry costs £30 and there are several offers running until the end of May, including half-price Bio Sculpture Gel on Mondays, half-price highlights on Tuesdays and a third off facials on Tuesdays.
