The managing director of a Farnborough business is one of three finalists for Entrepreneur of the Year in this year’s Inspire Business Awards.
Nick Thompson manages DCSL Software, in Lynchford Road, Farnborough , having started with the company in 1997 at the tender age of 17.
As a self-taught programmer he joined in a junior role and was mainly responsible for making teas and coffees for colleagues.
But he learned his craft and worked his way up until eventually he had the opportunity to buy out the company in 2013.
Since then he has completely restructured it, employing more than 30 additional new members of staff over 18 months, and almost doubling DCSL’s profits and revenue.
Mr Thompson’s inspiration came from a passion for IT and technology, which was the drive behind his incredible success.
His understanding and passion for the industry means that as an experienced software developer and software architect himself, he understands perfectly the way his clients’ businesses run and what he needs to do to progress businesses further through bespoke software development.
Mr Thompson said: “It’s really exciting to be nominated for the award and a real honour to be considered.
“If I win that will be even better.
“This time two years ago I had just bought the company and we moved offices with just 11 people – but now we have come so far since then.”
