HART'S Development Control Committee has rejected a plan for 42 one and two bedroomed flats on land behind the Oatsheaf pub in central Fleet.

The plan, which had been recommended for approval by officers, would have taken in the Fleet Coaches depot as well as two houses in Crookham Road. A quarter of the flats would have been for social housing.

But the committee cited poor parking and drainage and said it needed to know how well it was designed from a crime and security point of view.

"They were not against the principle of development, but did not like what they saw this time," said Hart planning's Mr Giorgio Framalicco.
