AN 18-year-old from Camberley is set to become the youngest ever British driver to compete in a British Formula 3 race.

Entered for the F3 winter series at Rockingham and Silverstone over the next fortnight, Aaran Stroud is being tipped to become one of the next generation of British Formula 1 drivers.

The Camberley Karting Club member won nine national events last year.

Aaran moved onto the BRDC Single Seater Formula Ford Championship this year, becoming a multiple race winner and new lap record holder at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.

British Formula 3 has become a feeder to F1 in recent years and is contested by the best junior international drivers in the world.

The cars use two litre racing engines, slick tyres and highly developed aerodynamic wings that enable them to travel at 165mph.

Aaran says: "Racing against the best is a great challenge and this presents me with a golden opportunity."

He trains five times a week and has his progress monitored by Jane Scard at Active Sports Therapy in Farnborough.
