This Saturday's Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular show in Aldershot rescheduled for November 16
Fireworks fans have been dealt some bad news in the cancellation of this weekend's Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular display due to strong winds being forecast.
Rushmoor Borough Council's annual show in Manor Park, Aldershot, attracts thousands of people every year, but a resurgence of the stormy weather that tore through the region last week has put paid to any hopes of staging it on Saturday night.
The fireworks display has been rescheduled and will take place on November 16 at the same time.
It was the realisation that the wind was forecast to be blowing towards spectators that forced the decision on Thursday, following talks between the council and the company putting on the display, Frontier Fireworks.
Town centre manager David Phillips said: "The winds are forecast to be quite strong and Frontier Fireworks weren't prepared to go ahead with it.
"We're expecting a constant wind of 19mph, with gusts of 39mph on Saturday evening, with the wind blowing directly at the audience.
"We know it's disappointing and inconvenient for people who have got their weekends planned, but we want people to attend a safe event."
The main display was due to start at 8pm, with a quieter children's display preceding it and other attractions including the Aldershot Military Wives Choir and live music also scheduled.
Those who have already bought tickets for the show can use them to gain entry to the rescheduled display, or claim a refund from the place they bought them from.
Emails are being sent by the council to all those with tickets to inform them and Mr Phillips said social media would be used heavily to spread the word.
