SANDHURST chess master Andrew Martin had his work cut out when he took on all comers at the same time in Main Square, Camberley.

Over an exhausting period of seven hours and 20 minutes Andrew played no fewer than 146 games. The only player to beat him was 14-year-old Sam Williams, a fellow member of Camberley Chess Club, who lives in Ash and attends Yateley Manor School.

Three other chess club members managed draws and Andrew won the remaining 142!

The event attracted a lot of passing interest and Andrew said his tiring day had helped to en-courage youngsters to play.

The club meets at 7.30 every Tuesday at Camberley Baptist Church in Frimley Road.
