POLICE have warned businesses in the Star area to be on their guard for a bogus alarm engineer.
The smooth talking villain is conning his way into offices on the pretext of checking fire and burglar alarms.
Once inside the buildings he goes on the prowl for anything worth stealing.
His latest victim was a man working in an office in Knoll Road, Camberley, who had three credit cards stolen.
The smartly dressed thief went straight into the town and used one of the cards to buy goods worth £449.
There have been reports of the trickster carrying out seven similar thefts in other parts of Surrey.
Earlier this year the villain stole a £1200 laptop computer from the offices of Menzies, chartered accountants, in Victoria Road, Farnborough.
Judy Williams, Camberley police press officer, said this week: "He is very plausible and usually carries a black leather folder.
"The businesses he has targeted have contracts with alarm companies, so people assume he is genuine."
The crook is described as being of Afro-Caribbean appearance, aged 25-30 and about 5ft 9in tall.
Anyone with information which might help police trace the man should contact Camberley police on 01276 27131.
