TOP level talks, aimed at ridding a Fleet road of its controversial chicanes, are to be held this month.
Senior Hart councillors are to put their case for ending the unpopular Elvetham Road scheme to Hampshire County Council leader Ken Thornber.
Hart council leader Robert Benford, who will head the deputation, said he was looking forward to a "full and frank discussion" on the issue.
The move follows a letter sent to Mr Thornber by eight Hart Conservative councillors who called for the immediate removal of the chicanes.
They feared that someone would be killed or injured if their plea was ignored.
Welcoming the news of the August 30 meeting, one of the campaigners, Coun. Sean Holden, said: "I think we are beginning to make some progress in getting the county council to understand just how seriously local people view the dangers of the Elvetham Road chicanes."
