A MOBILE phone mast designed to look like a tree has not impressed residents living near the proposed site at Frimley Green.
They have protested that the 80ft tall mast, earmarked for a site near the Basingstoke Canal, would still be an eyesore.
Their views have been backed by Surrey Heath Council planning chiefs who are recommending that BT Cellnet's application should be thrown out.
The company wants to site the mast and an equipment cabin in a wooded area in the grounds of the Lakeside Country Club.
But in a report the officers say the proposed mast would be "wholly alien" to the conservation area.
The application will be considered at this month's meeting of the council's development control committee.
