ELDERLY people have been warned about bogus callers after a man tricked his way into the home of an Aldershot pensioner.

He put on a fake Irish accent at a 78-year-old woman's house in Romsey Close on Wednesday evening, claiming he had been sent to fix a burst water pipe.

He kept her talking while his accomplices searched upstairs. But the gang was rumbled when the pensioner heard their voices and they ran off empty handed.

Police have advised people to ask for identi-fication before allowing anyone into their homes.

Legitimate visitors will be happy to wait while their company is telephoned.
