COMEDIAN Mike Reid's punch lines were followed by a real punch up at Frimley's Lakeside Country Club.
The one-time EastEnders actor was just getting into his stride when some of his audience decided to wipe the smiles off each others' faces.
As they came to blows, chairs and glasses went flying in the packed club where diners had paid £35-a-head for dinner and entertainment. People sitting at adjoining tables scattered as those involved in the fight grappled with each other on the floor.
Club security staff moved in break up the brawl, and police and ambulance crews were called to the nightclub.
One person was treated for cuts, and a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.
An eyewitness said: "I enjoy a lively night out, but what happened was pretty terrifying. It wasn't a laughing matter, that's for sure."
Police are now trying to trace as many people as possible who saw the fight break out.
Judy Williams, Camberley police press officer, said: "At this stage we aren't sure exactly what caused the incident.
"It seems that two parties sitting at adjoining tables exchanged words and it escalated into a fight."
She added that there was glass everywhere, but no-one required hospital treatment.
Anyone who can help with police inquiries into the incident, which happened between 11pm and 11.30pm on December 14, should contact PC Richard Loveday on 01276 27131.
A Lakeside spokesman said on Monday: "We have no comment to make."
