FLYING high! That's what airfield campaigners Patrick Kirby and Gwilym Anthony hope to be later tonight when the votes are counted in Knellwood ward, Farnborough.

Colleague Keith Parkins might make it a hat-trick while other independents such as Peter Sandy in Heron Wood, Aldershot, and Derek Asker in Empress, Farnborough, are also bidding to get on to Rushmoor Council.

With the whole council up for grabs no one was predicting just what the final line-up would be - but there are sure to be one or two surprises.

Hart too has been re-organised and tight finishes are expected in a number of wards in Fleet and Crookham. Dennis Gotel, the anti chicanes and anti roadblocks campaigner, is mounting a strong independent challenge in Fleet Central. The council's leader, Liberal Democrat David Simpson, is being opposed by his friends, Keith and Kim Spendlove, standing for Labour.

"We are godparents to their youngest daughter," explained David, who is standing in Yateley North.

The polls close at 9 pm tonight, Thursday, so if you haven't been yet - get out and vote!
