POLICE are hunting an arsonist who left a trail of blazing cars in his wake at Camberley early last Saturday.
The alarm was raised by a Ford Granada owner in Krooner Road who was alerted by the car's alarm going off.
He raced outside to find flames shooting out of the vehicle which, according to police, was "completely gutted".
A Volvo 440 in Crabtree Road was also burnt out, and a Peugeot 306 in Westfield Road sustained internal smoke damage.
The fire raiser also attacked three cars in Bain Avenue. They were a Peugeot 405, a Rover 420 and a Seat Inca.
A police tracker dog was called in but could find no trace of the arsonist who first struck at about 2am.
Forensic experts are examining the cars to try to determine exactly how they were set alight.
Judy Williams, Camberley police press officer, said on Monday: "We don't know the total cost of the damage yet, but it will be many thousands of pounds."
PC Ed Griffiths, who is leading the investigation, is appealing for information from anyone who can help track down the culprit.
He can be contacted at Camberley police station on 01276 27131. Alternatively calls can be made anonymously and free of charge to Surrey Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
