FRIMLEY Green Carnival went off with a bang for Surrey Heath's Mayor, Coun. Andree Neighbour.

The E-type Jag in which she set out on the procession belched smoke and expired, so she had to join the Carnival Princesses Lucia Amabile, Samantha and Sophie Francis in a vintage Talbot. The local Rotary Club had loaned both cars.

In glorious sunshine record crowds flocked to the 26th carnival. It was based on a jubilee theme to represent both the Queen's golden event and the carnival's silver. First prize for the best float went for the second year running to the Beaver Scouts of the Frimley Green and Mytchett Scout Group with a golden coach. Second was Woodend Removals and third the Frimley Green & Mytchett Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.

Over 50 stalls and other attractions were on the Green. Funds raised by the carnival will be passed on to local charities and £1000 was raised at a gala evening at the Lakeside Canal Suite on Friday.
