THREE villains fled empty-handed after police caught them trying to break open a cashpoint machine at Camberley at 3.30am last Thursday.
They were busy hammering away at the brickwork surrounding the machine at McDonalds drive-through restaurant when they were seen by a passing police patrol.
As the officers drove into the car park from London Road, the trio jumped over a hedge and disappeared, abandoning their Ford van in the process.
Pieces of brickwork and parts of the machine were left littered on the ground, but no money was stolen.
One of the thieves was white and 6ft tall. He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit top and dark blue bottoms.
Another was 5ft 7in tall and stockily built. He had on a white hooded top and light blue jeans.
The third raider was of Asian appearance, about 5ft 10in tall and slim. He was wearing a dark beige hooded top.
In a separate incident a thief got away with what police describe as a "substantial amount of cash" from a sub-post office at Heatherside, Camberley.
He or she sneaked into the premises in the Heatheridge Arcade through a back door and took the money from a safe at lunchtime on Tuesday last week.
WDC Karan Andrews, of Camberley CID, would like to hear from anyone who has useful information about either incident.
