A WOMAN motorist has provided vital clues as police search for two villains who torched a City Link van at North Camp.

She was driving along the A331 road when she saw one of the crooks setting light to the stolen van in Hollybush Lane at lunchtime on Tuesday last week.

The witness turned off the road and on to a bridge where she was able to look down on the pair as they prepared to make their getaway.

PC Martin Barnes, who is investigating the arson, said: "We had quite a few calls from motorists on the A331 who saw the van being set alight.

"But thanks to the alertness of this woman driver we have been given a detailed description of one of the men involved." He is described as white, 6ft tall and skinny. He was wearing a blue and white horizontal striped polo-type shirt, pale blue jeans and a white baseball cap. The City Link van was stolen from Alresford while the driver was making a delivery. During its 20-mile journey to Hollybush Lane it is believed to have been involved in an accident.
