The Coffee Spot in Sandhurst is closed, and the council in inviting anyone interested in running it to come forward.

Coun Paul Bettison said that with the busy summer season here the council needed someone quickly to step in and keep the popular café open. By law people have to tender for the licence, but he said it could be had for "a modest sum".

In fact the licensee could have it by offering the council only a small percentage of the takings, he said, and that way there would be no financial risk involved. If no one does come forward to take on the job, he says he hopes to make up a rota of volunteers who will give a few hours each day to keep the place open.

It is just coming up to the busiest time of year with lots of people visiting the Memorial Park and hoping to pop into the Coffee Spot for an ice cream and a cup of tea.

Anyone interested in acquiring the licence or putting their names on a volunteer rota should ring the council on 01252 879060.The café is open from 10-4 seven days a week.
