ONE of Aldershot's best known traders has died after a short illness at the age of 59.

Peter Garton was known to scores of local people as the owner of Mac's Mini Bazaar.

He was a shopkeeper of the old school who stocked life's necessities.

His shelves were stacked with a wide variety of goods ranging from household goods and toiletries to plumbing equipment.

"Our shop was the Wilkinson's of its day, and we had a lot of loyal customers," his widow, Doreen, said on Monday.

Peter, who was born in a flat in Victoria Road, started work at the town's market at the age of 11.

For many years he worked for Mr Margolis, the original owner of Mac's Mini Bazaar, before buying him out in 1976.

The business, which moved several times, occupied premises in Wellington Street when it finally closed in 1995.

Peter, who attended West End and Manor Park schools, is survived by his daughter, Wendy, aged 23, and 34-year-old son Richard.

His funeral took place at Aldershot Crematorium.
