Doctors at a surgery in Wren Way, Farnborough, are planning to move to a new site on open land adjacent to Water Lane.
The plans are at an advanced stage and Rushmoor Council's Cabinet has given approval in principle. They are now subject to detailed negotiations on the land acquisition and require planning permission.
Dr Stephanie Heywood, the lead GP at the practice, commented: "We have outgrown the present building at Wren Way. To expand and improve the services we offer we need more space.
"This new site provides us with an opportunity to continue to serve all our existing patients in this area at a brand new surgery."
Coun Alan Ferrier, Cabinet member for Corporate Services, said: "We are pleased to be able to help the surgery to relocate. The new accommodation will only use a small area on the Water Lane site, which still leaves a substantial area for community use."
Coun David Clifford, Cabinet member for Leisure and Promotion, added: "The Mayfield Partnership has identified community needs for this area and money from the land sale for the surgery will enable us to invest in facilities for young people and local residents."
The surgery currently has 5,500 patients and operates from Wren Way. At present it is not possible to predict when the new building will be ready for occupation. The practice will continue to run without interruption at all times.
