Donkeys brought in to give town trade a kick

Animal guests meet visitors to Aldershot town centre in latest bid to increase footfall

Bobby, 9, meets one of the Little Dallas Donkeys

Visitors to Aldershot town centre encountered a pair of donkeys in the latest round of entertainment laid on to give trade a boost.

The Little Dallas Donkeys are a regular attraction in the town at Christmas, but were brought in on Friday August 16 to meet children on their school holidays and their families in Union Street. In addition, fairground rides and face-painting were available to give people a break during their shopping trip or lunch break.

The entertainment was arranged by Rushmoor Borough Council’s management team that looks after the centre of Aldershot. This was the second of its Fun Day Friday events that have run every other week through August.

Town centre manager David Phillips said: “The weather wasn’t so good as the first week but the donkeys are always popular during the Christmas lights so we thought we would bring them out in the summer holidays.

“Children could pet them and have their picture take with them.”

The last of the three Fun Day Friday events will take place on August 30 in the same location where there will be juggling demonstrations.
