"Someone could have been killed."

These are words of a driver involved in a terrifying collision in Fleet earlier this month, captured on their dashcam.

Tyre company director John Pettifor, 53, was driving along Fleet Road after helping his injured mother.

The footage then shows another car speed out of an adjoining junction ahead of Mr Pettifor's Chevrolet 4x4, which smashes into the side of the Peugeot.

Mr Pettifor said the incident happened at the junction of Church Road, adding two of the occupants of the Peugeot that hit his car fled the scene.

“If it had happened one second later and someone had been driving a smaller car, such as a Ford Fiesta, the impact of that could have been instant death,” said Mr Pettifor.

“It’s not a case of ‘poor me, I had an accident’. It’s a case of someone could have been killed.

“I was doing about 26mph. Then the car came out of Church Road.”

Mr Pettifor’s dashcam recorded the incident and the video has subsequently been posted on various Facebook groups.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “Police were called at around 2am on Saturday October 15 to reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a Peugeot 307 and a Chevrolet 4x4 at the junction of Fleet Road and Church Road, Fleet.
