A CAMBERLEY driver narrowly escaped serious injury when a brick smashed the sunroof of his Peugeot 205 car.

The incident happened last Thursday afternoon as he drove under Coleford Bridge on the Blackwater Valley Relief Road.

Badly shaken by the brick and glass showering into his car, the 27-year-old managed to keep control of his vehicle and pull on to the hard shoulder.

He got out but failed to get sight of the person responsible for targeting his car.

It was the latest in a spate of similar missile throwing incidents on the road, and the nearby M3 motorway, in recent months.

Police are becoming increasingly concerned that what youngsters regard as a prank could end in tragedy.

Commenting on the latest incident, a Camberley police spokeswoman said: "It could have had serious repercussions."

She appealed for information from anyone who was in the area of the bridge at 2.30pm last Thursday when the incident happened.

Witnesses should contact Camberley police on 01276 27131.
