A travel scholarship, awarded by Blackwater Valley Rotary Club in honour of the late Jacqueline Findlay, former head teacher of North Farnborough Infants School and first President of the club, has been awarded to Sarah McNamara, 18, of Camberley.

Sarah is a second year student at Farnborough Sixth Form College and is planning to spend the next 12 months in Nepal, teaching English in a village school, before undertaking degree studies at Sheffield University in 2004.

Niki Holden, President of the Rotary Club, who presented the award, said: "Sarah has impressed us all." She was one of 13 winners of £250 travel scholarships this summer. Among the winners, Tim Conry,18, formerly of Frogmore School, will be assisting in building a new school in Tanzania, Helen Rowles, 17, formerly of Court Moor School, will be undertaking a conservation project in Honduras, and Christine Copley, 18, formerly of Court Moor School, will be visiting Belarus for an international Guide camp. Other winners are: Adrian Millerick, Amy Sutton, Eleanor Tress and Josefina Piacenza, Emily Feltham, Hannah Dallison, Jennifer Wood, Leah Stone and Tim Ebdon.
