PLANS to turn two office buildings into a total of nine flats at the corner of Reading Road South and St James Road in Fleet have been turned down by Hart planners on the grounds of loss of jobs as well as overlooking.

The application from 10/18 Developments would have seen the demolition of AFL House in St James Road, a two-storey extension at the back of 14 Reading Road South and the use of its upper floors for flats. Hart councillor Stephen Gorys owns part of the site.

In addition to the main reasons for refusal, Hart's Development Control Committee said it would lead to parking on the road and that the plan should have provided secure cycle parking so as to reduce reliance on cars.
