A living room was destroyed in a house fire in Fleet on Sunday afternoon (April 10).

Firefighters from Fleet and Rushmoor spent an hour-and-a-half tackling the blaze in Florence Road.

Fleet fire station crew manager Jack Jacobs said: “Two fire engines were sent at first but on arrival we requested a further engine so there were three in total.

“It was a fire that destroyed the living room, and smoke damage filled the rest of the house.

“No-one was injured. As for the cause, we don’t know. Due to massive fire damage in the room it’s hard to say.

“One person was in the house at the time who tried to tackle the fire herself, but she left before we got there.”

Watch manager Kevin Griffiths, also from Fleet fire station, added: “The occupant was lucky not to be injured.

“This highlights the importance of getting out and staying out and not tackling the fire yourself."
