HALF a lifetime's involvement with netball has led to Cove enthusiast Jean Gosling's appearance as a time-keeping official at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Tireless Jean still manages to hold down two jobs at the age of 68. One of them is in the clothing department of Asda in Farnborough - and she was surprised to find that she will be wearing a uniform sponsored by the firm's George clothing range! She also has a daytime job in the offices of Amey, at the former RAE. Jean's job at the Games will involve timekeeping during netball matches.
Jean, who lives at Weir Close, played netball at school but took it up seriously in 1965. She continued playing into her 60s with Rushmoor Netball Club, of which she is a past chairman. The game has taken her to many parts of the world including Australia, Canada, Singapore and most recently Ireland. She has also held a number of county and regional posts.
"I am really looking forward to it as I have done the World Championships before but never the Commonwealth Games," she says.
