FLEET Carnival celebrations get into full swing this weekend with the grand procession and children's parade.

FLEET Carnival celebrations get into full swing this weekend with the grand procession and children's parade.

The grand procession leaves Courtmoor Avenue in Fleet at 6.30pm on July 13.

Scores of colourful floats will make their way along Reading Road South, Connaught Road, Kings Road, Fleet Road, Reading Road North and Harlington Way into The Views.

This year's theme is "Kings and Queens — Real or Imaginary" and the parade will also feature the Old Basing Royal British Legion Corps of Drums, Beatrootsbateria Samba Band and the Bournemouth Carnival Band.

Carnival chairman Molly Ebdon is urging people to give generously during the parade.

"We welcome donations as all money raised goes to benefit local carnival charities," she said.

"However, we would urge people not to throw coins, water, foam or any other object.

"We want everyone to have an enjoyable evening."

Local band Why? will play in the marquee on The Views after the procession.

The children's procession leaves the former EDS car park in Albert Street at 12.30pm on July 14.

The floats will travel along Albert Street, Church Road and Fleet Road before they enter The Views.

A family fun day will be held at The Views from 10am to 5pm on July 14.

Attractions will include a barbershop choir, a classic motor show, a classic bike and trike rally, circus workshop, pet show, craft fair and live music.

Churches Together in Fleet and Church Crookham will be holding a Songs of Praise community hymn singing event in The Views marquee on July 14 at 7pm.

The baby show for youngsters aged between three and 18 months is in the marquee on July 15 at 2pm. More information is available from Lesley Bascran on 01252 812988.

The popular carnival quiz is in the marquee at 8pm on July 15. The entry fee is £10 per team of four. Contact Mike Hitchen on 01252 684062 for more details.

On July 12 there will be a junior disco in The Views marquee from 7-9pm. Entry is £2 on the door.

There will also be line dancing in the Harlington Centre, Fleet, from 7.30-11.30pm. Tickets are £6.50 and available from the Harlington Centre.
