FARNBOROUGH'S new skate park has been awarded £91,180 of lottery money and it will be officially opened on Sunday, September 8.
Work has already started on the park, which is being built on a grassy area between Farnborough Recreation and Community Centres.
Simon Venn, the project manager, said this week: "This is fantastic news for Rushmoor."
The park is said to be unique in the south-east, as it will boast a specially engineered power floated concrete riding surface as well as ramps of steel, wood and skatelite. Pictured with Simon and Coun. David Clifford are members of Regiment 36, the Rushmoor Skateboard and BMX Association, who played a key part in the layout and design.
The total cost of the facility is £175,000 and other grants have been made by Hampshire Playing Fields Association (£1500), Rushmoor Community Safety Partnership (£2000) and local skate shop Swivel (£2000).
