AFTER months of wrangling, Aldershot's long awaited £20-million centre for health has been given the go-ahead.

The private-public partnership deal was approved by the Blackwater Valley and Hart Primary Care Trust on Tuesday.

Agreement has at last been reached over how much rent the trust will pay Wilky Healthcare Centres, which has won the building contract.

The centre, designed to provide 21st century healthcare facilities for both local residents and army personnel, is earmarked for a site at Hospital Hill.

Aldershot MP Gerald Howarth said yesterday (Wednesday) that he was "absolutely delighted" that the trust had finally given the centre the green light.

"The people of Aldershot have had to wait far too long for this vital facility," he added.
