EDUCATION cuts were the order of the day at Henry Tyndale School, Aldershot, this week, courtesy of a head shave to raise money for playground equipment.

Mandy Johns, a part time helper, volunteered to have half her head shaved by pupil Kale N'Jie, eight, to raise £3,800 for a specialised swing for disabled children.

Headteacher Rob Thomp-son, said: "We have been delighted with the money that has come in."

"We have had nearly £4,000 pledged so if it all comes in we will be able to buy a specialised swing which a disabled child can use."

Mr Thompson said it was all Mandy's idea.

"We went for this because it would catch the imagination."

Confident all the pledged money would come in, the playground was due to be measured up for the equipment just half an hour later.

Mandy was due to have the remainder of her flowing locks shaved off at the pub on Wednesday night.
