A 19-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail following reports of offensive messages being posted on social media following the death of three-year-old Mikaeel in Scotland

A teenager has been arrested following an alleged racist post on Facebook relating to the death of Mikaeel Kular in Scotland.

Hampshire Constabulary received a call on Saturday January 18 to report a racially offensive comment on the social media website, which could relate to the three-year-old boy, whose body was found in a wooded area of Fife late on Friday.

He had been reported missing from his Edinburgh home by his mother on January 16. The discovery of his body followed a major investigation and search.

A 19-year-old man, believed to be from Farnborough, has been arrested on suspicion of publishing written material to stir up racial hatred. He was questioned at a police station and later released on bail until the last week in January, pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are investigating the message to assess whether any criminal offences have been committed.

"Hampshire Constabulary is in contact with Police Scotland about this investigation."

A 26-year-old from Derbyshire has also been arrested and released on bail in relation to offensive messages on Twitter.
