Traders and shoppers in Hart are to get a welcome boost.
Hart District Council has agreed to waive parking charges in all its car parks on Saturday (December 3) from 8am to midnight in support of Small Business Saturday.
The national grass roots, non-commercial campaign encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
Councillor Ken Crookes, Hart’s cabinet member for economic development and finance, said: “We are committed to supporting small businesses across our district and, by supporting national campaigns like this, we aim to raise the profile of the small business offering in Hart.
“Small businesses play a vital role in Hart’s economy and across the UK last year customers spent £623m with small businesses on Small Business Saturday, an increase of £119m or 24% on 2014.
“I’m delighted that the council can again offer free parking to support Small Business Saturday and I encourage all Hart businesses to take part in this year’s campaign.”
North East Hampshire MP Ranil Jayawardena has welcomed the move.
He said: “I’m really pleased to see Hart District Council supporting Small Business Saturday by providing free parking across council owned car parks.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the British economy and I hope that everyone will take the opportunity to support our local small businesses in the run up to Christmas.”
