YOUNGSTERS have raised £1,000 for a charity close to their hearts.
Pupils at Crookham Infants collected the money for Cancer Research UK, a particularly poignant charity as the school’s headteacher Gill Lockie is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
The youngsters raised the money from a collection at their nativity play and from donations for the chance to wear party clothes to school just before Christmas.
“Everyone has been extremely generous and for a small school the amount raised is astonishing,” said Julia Griffin, finance officer at the school in Gally Hill Road, Church Crookham.
“Some children even emptied their money boxes for the collection.”
The school was so proud of its efforts that it organised a special cheque presentation to Clare Cannock, community fundraiser for Cancer Research UK. Staff and pupils were also delighted that Mrs Lockie was well enough to attend the ceremony and help present the cheque.
