Health club opens

A NEW state-of-the-art health club opened in Fleet yesterday.

A NEW state-of-the-art health club opened in Fleet yesterday.

Fitness First — Europe’s largest health club chain with more than 720,000 members — is on the first floor of the Hart Shopping Centre.

The 16,800 sq ft unit houses a gymnasium, cardio theatre, exercise studio and aerobiking studio.

There is also a steam room, sauna, sunbeds, beauty suite and aromatherapy room.

The health club also boasts a juice and coffee bar offering free refreshments and a free mem-bers’ DVD and video library stocking more than 600 titles.

Members will also be able to use the other 143 Fitness First clubs around the country.

Mike Balfour, chief executive of Fitness First, said the company was delighted to be launching in Fleet.

“Fitness First currently has 16 clubs in the south-east and the new club will help further establish us as one of the country’s market leaders in the field of health and fitness,” he said.

An open weekend on Saturday and Sunday gave people the chance to sample taster classes, meet the team and view the facilities on offer.

General manager Brett Askew said: “The open weekend helped us to encourage people in Fleet to start thinking about a healthier lifestyle and introduced them to some excellent classes, facilities and member benefits.”

The first 500 people to join the club will get free membership and benefit from a further £5 reduction on their monthly membership fees.

All members receive a free starter pack worth £50.
