To celebrate the Queen's golden jubilee, Hodge's Travel, based on the Yorktown Road in Sandhurst, ran a competition for their Travel Club members giving them the opportunity to win a commemorative 22 carat gold sovereign (first prize) and half sovereign (second prize).

Timothy Noad, a herald painter at the College of Arms, created the elegant composition and the Royal Mint struck the sovereigns to a strict issue limit of 100,000.

The contest asked questions on the Queen's life and the lucky winners were Julian and Margaret Lee from Sandhurst (first prize) and James and Irene Dolan from Wokingham. They are pictured above drinking a toast with Graham Hull, manager of Hodge's Travel, and Claire Moss, Travel Club co-ordinator.
